In 2017 Amy & her husband Dominic purchased 7+ acres of land with a dream of creating a space that was everything a dog could want while their owner was away.
Now we are so excited to offer your pup a place to be treated like family in an open, farm-like setting. At Open Acres, dogs will enjoy large outdoor yards and an 800 sq. ft. building to play & relax in. Toys, kiddie pools in the summer and lots of 1:1 attention is on the agenda. We believe in small play groups so that each one can enjoy individual attention and we can take notice when they may need a little space, a little reassurance or just a bit of a rest.
Amy’s love for animals began at a young age and developed through the years. First, she drove her parents crazy bringing in all of the stray cats of the neighborhood to try and find their homes. Then, walking and interacting with as many dogs as she could get her hands on. As time went on her heart opened even more as she began caring for the elderly and vulnerable in a variety of settings. Her skills for compassion & patience grew as did her realization that FUN! should be woven in to everything we do. Now she is ready to take everything she has learned and get back to her heart roots – caring for animals and their owners by providing that safe, fun space to play, rest and relax.
Amy spent two and a half years at Mud Bay becoming a Dog & Cat Specialist while completing their extensive First Year Journey training program. This program includes everything from basic safety to dog & cat health, nutrition & behavior. During this time, she also completed the Seattle Humane Society certification in Small Animal First Aid & CPR. You will also find her studying closely with behavior modification trainers in the local area.
